10things#4 - You will get stuck in a rut

It's inevitable. It's frustrating. It's a complete pile of arse. But it will happen at some point, whatever you do, if you've spent 10 years in the same profession - you'll come to the realisation, either as a smack-in-the-face-shock, or a slow burning irritation, that you're stuck. You do the same thing week after week, you create the same things again and again, you're no longer inspired by what you do and just don't care that those things are happening.

This, my friends, is what's known as a rut. Or as I like to call it, a 'fucking life-suck shithole'.

Specifically for web design, this is sometimes a problem, othertimes it's not - if your rut fucking life-suck shithole is interpreted as a 'style' by people wanting to hire you, then carrying on doing what you're doing is, at least, a job. If however, you see it as a grindstone, then it can become a zombiefying process that leaves you wondering whether or not to ditch it all in and go live on a beach somewhere selling ice-creams to tourists. Or something. I haven't thought about it much. Honest.

Don't worry though, the next post it titled "You will get out of your rut" - it's not all doom and gloom around here.

About P14 ( not "us" - me! )

There's no 'us' here, I'm not going to try and sound like a multi-national conglomerate, it's just me (Luc Pestille) trying to create websites for people who want them. There's no high art to it, just high quality. I specialise in front-end design and development, and Expression Engine / WordPress integration.

Currently... what?

I'm currently maintaining the little blog network I'm involved in, waiting for Battlefield 3 and playing FIFA 12 - but I'm available for small webdesign projects - get in touch and I'll squeeze you in.
