Winning Eleven Blog / FIFA Soccer Blog
Winning Eleven Next-Gen Blog (WENB) started 3 years ago as a Blogger-powered blog, but quickly became the place to find out the latest news about the PES / Winning Eleven games from Konami. I got involved when I re-designed the site one rainy Sunday afternoon, and soon ported it to a WordPress-powered site, on it's own dedicated server. A year further down the line and FIFA Soccer Blog (FSB) was absorbed into the team, and the two sites ran as siblings, powered by WPMU and phpBB, with a highly customised theme.
18 months on from that launch, and the sites were re-designed and built from the groud up, moving to a more powerful host, and running the latest version of WordPress. WENB and FSB have been joined by PlayStation Gaming Blog - the new kid on the block, but has potential to do very well.

I love the theme on your FIFA Soccer Blog! Any chance of you releasing the Wordpress theme into the public when you port over to EE? I’d love to use it on a couple of my projects ‘cause it looks simple, professional and the background is easily adaptable to any site.

I was thinking about releasing it after the port to EE actually, but that won’t happen until February at the earliest. It’s not that complex to re-create, if you know what you’re doing…
Ah, well therein lies the problem. I’m no designer! Did you get the red background and grass footer from somewhere like istock? I guess I could give it a whirl. It would be perfect for a fitness based podcast site I’m looking to do.
I’ll keep my eyes peeled in Feb anyway…

I’ll probably release the theme after we’ve updated FSB in the next couple of months, so an early Xmas present might be on the cards if you’re lucky…
I really like your portfolio, great work. Is expression engine better/easier than Wordpress? Btw, mentioning “Konami” brings back some cool memories about my first game computer, a Philips MSX. The other clan were the Commodore 64 lovers. Those were the days, even though the game images were nothing compared to the realistic stuff the gaming industry is feeding us today
